This was just after I learned about the winter waterfowl count being organized by New York State's Ornithological Society (NYSOA) from Jim Ash, South Fork Natural History (SOFO) Executive Director.

We spotted these sanderlings out towards Port Jefferson Harbor, west of the big rock. And below we spotted a Brant flock spread out between Belle Terre and Port Jefferson's East Beach.

"I have a trail near my house which is only about half a mile long, but my wife and I like it. Unfortunately, there is a lot of trash—cans, bottles bags, etc. The trail is particularly nice because it ends on a cliff overlooking the Long Island Sound. The cliff itself has quite a lot of debris." - Barry

When Colonel McClintock, Commander 96th Air Base Wing, spoke to Florida's House Military And Local Affair Policy Committee on Jan 13th, he spoke with confidence and support of the Florida Forever Program. It is a great help to military installations all over the state, as it buffers these installations from encroachment and helps conservation at the same time.

Connecting military base safety with conservation is not that unusual.
