Rocky Point Cliffs Nature Preserve Needs Adopt-A-Highway Cleanup

After I posted, Quality Parks Adopts Road To Keep Pine Barrens Cleaner. it took several phone calls to the Town of Brookhaven, some online searching, and finally a visit to Rocky Point to find what Barry's comment was about:

"I have a trail near my house which is only about half a mile long, but my wife and I like it. Unfortunately, there is a lot of trash—cans, bottles bags, etc. The trail is particularly nice because it ends on a cliff overlooking the Long Island Sound. The cliff itself has quite a lot of debris." - Barry

 How many times have you tossed a bottle into the recycling bin without another thought?

Before I heard about this from a classmate of mine and read an article in the Practical Environmentalist,

I had no idea that bottle caps weren't recyclable.

New Incident Reporting System enables improved response to illegal dumping in the Pine Barrens

The Central Pine Barrens Commission has a new Incident Report which enables local citizens to report illegal dumping and other incidents in the Pine Barrens. I recently used this report, actually I called the Pine Barrens office directly, to report a dumped jetski in the Pine Barrens. I also photographed it and emailed it to them when I returned home.
