A Benchmark for Stony Brook University (Ashley Schiff)

The forty year anniversary of Ashley Schiff's death, is not only a benchmark in time but a time to benchmark ways in which the Ashley Schiff Park Preserve can be protected forever.  This past October, The Friends of the Ashley Schiff Park Preserve organized an event for friends, new friends, and family.  Besides the formal dedication, pictured below, a video presentation, guest speakers, and food made for a great day.

Stakeholders striving to improve forest health (Kootenai National Forest, Montana)

This article by Brandon Roberts of The Western News (11/25/08) caught my eye because it provides a means for community involvement in forest management. An agreement has been forged between the community and the US Forest Service for more effective collaboration.

Note: The Kootenai National Forest is located in the Northwest corner of Montana and the Northeast corner of Idaho on the Canadian border. Providing abundant recreation and a wealth of natural resources, the Kootenai is a perfect place to relax and enjoy your National Forests!,  as quoted from U.S. Forest Service web page (see references).

Note: The Forest Service and the Coalition will monitor the implementation and effectiveness of the project actions - - according to the MOU
