Alberta's Tar Sands--For Better or For Worse?

Oil extraction from the Alberta Tar Sands is "The World's most Destructive Project" according to the activist website, one blue marble, but also by many others. What exactly makes the Tar Sands project so dangerous to humanity and the planet's well-being? Well, for starters, the process of extraction is more complex and involves the usage of expensive machinery than conventional oil mining. Tar sands are a mixture of clay, sand, water and bitumen which is a heavy viscous oil.

A backyard story: Lawn mowers.

Everybody who owns a house probably has a lawn or grass top of some sort.
And of course, grass grows, and it grows pretty fast.
To control grass growth and keep it living and healthy:
People weekly or bi-weekly mow their lawns with lawnmowers.
Weekly, around 54 MILLION Americans mow their lawns,
although this doesn't seem like much maybe, it adds up to about
800 million gallons of gas per year, and it produces tons of air pollutants.
Lawn and garden equipment emit high levels of dangerous carbon monoxide,
volatile organic compounds, and nitrogen oxides. Also, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, VOCs, or volatile organic compounds form ozone and smog that leads to asthma and breathing problems for humans.
