Nissequogue River State Park, NY
Many people are not even aware of the Nissequogue River State Park because all of the old Kings Park State Hospital buildings are still on the property. But the park still offers recreation such as kayaking, boating, fishing and hiking and biking.

We are trying to create a park that will benefit all residents of the state. A park that encompasses recreation, arts and culture as well as historical and educational uses. We just created the Nissequogue River State Park Foundation and it so far consists of community and civic leaders on its board of directors.
We are also looking to create an advisory board consisting of environmental, recreational, historical representatives that can give reccomendations on the creation and preservation of the park. We just created the website, although it is in its early stages:
