Waterfowl An unusually large number of waterfowl visited Port Jefferson vicinity this January Thaw. This was just after I learned about the winter waterfowl count being organized by New York State's Ornithological Society (NYSOA) from Jim Ash, South Fork Natural History (SOFO) Executive Director.
We spotted these sanderlings out towards Port Jefferson Harbor, west of the big rock. And below we spotted a Brant flock spread out between Belle Terre and Port Jefferson's East Beach.
