“The Glen Rouge Campground is nestled in 12,000 acres of forests and meadows in Rouge Park, Canada's largest urban park. Just steps from your tent or trailer you will find kilometres of trails teeming with plant and animal life.”This is the description of the Glen Rouge Park by the City of Toronto, and I couldn’t have found a better way to introduce it.
Glen Rouge Campground is the perfect place to enjoy, relax, and fully join mother nature in the wilderness. Campers are able to spot fox, deer, wild turkey, and many species of birds among the pines, hemlocks and maples. Campers are able to set up a tent in one of 27 unserviced sites or unpack a knapsack to enjoy one of 11 sites designed for backpackers or touring cyclists.
Campers are provided with all amenities including clean washrooms, change rooms, showers, coin laundry, vending machines, fire pits and barbecues, public phones children’s play area and much more!
In order to make the experience more worthwhile, 250 km of the Rouge River flows in the Oak Ridges Moraine, this is North Toronto’s most unique geological feature. There are many activities that can be done in Rouge Park, amongst them are hiking & fishing. There are many different trails that one can take a hike on, some of them are:
· Mast Trail: A walk along the 200 year old logging route
· Cedar Trail: Cold green forests that shelter the valley lands
· Orchard Trail: Pass through nature reclaiming agricultural land
· Vista Trail: Panoramic views of the Rouge River Valley
· Riverside Trail: Take a hike past Aboriginals’ lands
The Rouge Park is also home to a sandy beach formed where the Rouge River meets Lake Ontario. It is a popular summer spot for neighbours and visitors, from dawn till dusk, make a splash or go fishing. The Glen Rouge Campground is the only place place in Ontario, where the best of both worlds are met, enjoyed, and left in peace.
