News from the President's desk . . .
Plans are in the works to offer Master Naturalist Certification on a monthly basis. The first module, Long Island Explorer, will be offered in late September or early October. I'm looking for one instructor for the morning. It will be a full day, and be offered on Saturdays. The following month, Oct-Nov, will be LI Geology & Plant Communities, etc. There are six core modules, with the anticipated tuition fee being $75 per student per module, or $360 for the entire program. Any student that already paid for the March 2018 Workshop is free to attend. If you're interested in signing up early, contact us with your questions.
The Friends of The Long Pond Greenbelt purchased plants from us as part of their native restoration project at Vineyard Field. Thank You! And we all pitched in to plant and water them in. Quality Parks is offering Native Plants For Sale at wholesale rates, which includes sales tax, at the Port Jefferson Farmers Market, every Sunday from 9-2, where you can volunteer to table or purchase plants for your own garden or restoration project. I have several articles I'm working on, and I encourage anyone to contribute a story as well. It would be of great service to our readers, if you could do a write up about the ongoing dismantling of national environmental regulations, including endangered species protection and climate change. Have you written a story for another publication? I can work with you republish it for Quality Parks. Have a public access or wildlife story to tell? Contact us.
