Suffolk County approved luxurious camping (glamping) at Cedar Point Park (within a month). The bid was jointly won by Jonathan Wang, an active real estate investor who founded EOS Investors LLC in 2017, and by Terra Glamping, active in hospitality and marketing, founded in 2014. The Pine Barrens Trail Center could benefit too.
Why not use their expertise to also take over and market the Pine Barrens Trail Center, as a way to keep it open? Open for profit, that is, for those who can afford a comparable $250 camping fee. But with the help of a real estate investor, a hospitality specialist, and a marketing guru, it would be great. Imagine what a giant leap it would be for the Pine Barrens Trail Center, with its humble beginning as Helen's Country Kitchen, to become a luxurious respite, for weary drivers, just off of the LIE and Route 111.
Suffolk County Parks has denied key access to volunteers, active in public lands stewardship for more than 30 years. This denial is nothing new. But advocacy takes time. So instead of more meetings to keep the Pine Barrens Trail Center, the Cedar Point County Park concept is an idea worth pursuing.
