The Manorville Historical Society is discussing lease agreement option with SC PARKS. In May, they were also organizing an event highlighting local historical sights, including the Pine Barrens Trail Center, formerly Helen's Country Kitchen.
To support their charity work, Quality Parks organized a "Spruce Up," so that the building would be ready for the planned event in June. Several days prior, volunteers from the Manorville Historical Society, the Long Island Greenbelt Trail Conference, and Quality Parks spent several hours cleaning up both the inside and the outside of the Pine Barrens Trail Center. Quality Parks also donated some of its Bee Friendly Plants for the front and backyard gardens. We also observed roof gutters in need of repair, and the damage (holes) from maybe an animal getting into the attic.
How the building could best be used by the community, not only as a trail center, but as meeting place, historic site, and much more, is an ongoing discussion. Quality Parks is also giving voice to moving the nearby R.C. Murphy Park dedication plaque to the Pine Barrens Trail Center, as the plaque and the old entrance is not publicly accessible. The Long Island Greenbelt Conference never renewed the contract which expired in December 2017.
