The Riverhead Free Library and Quality Parks made this pollinator garden with bee friendly plants a success. All plants were locally grown by Mindy Block, under Quality Parks, as the grower and nursery manager. Garden design was by Eileen Mackey. At the Riverhead Library Board Trustee meeting, Eileen presented an overview of the plants that were going to be planted, and was very pleased at the cost of the plants [Reference 1].
Plants were staged at the entrance of the Riverhead Free Library. The plants included a variety of asters and milkweeds, and other natives selected for color, shade to sun tolerance, pollinator benefit, spread and height characteristics, and soil conditions. Parsley and thyme were also planted for butterfly benefit.
Thank you Riverhead Free Library Trustees and the many volunteer planters for this bee friendly garden addition to the library's landscaped entrance. Quality Parks also welcomes volunteers and annual giving to continue its conservation and education charity mission. The planting was done in late June, 2019.
