New York Ironweed (Vernonia noveboracensis)

A late flowering perennial, New York Ironweed, is a great addition to a meadow. Doesn't do well in dry sandy soils.  Deer resistant.

Summary

Classification:  herbaceous perennial
Characteristics:  spreads by seeds
Habitat: moist to medium moisture soil (doesn't do well in sandy soils)
Wildlife Benefit:  monarch butterflies, bees, pollinators and birds eat seeds
Bloom Period: late summer, long lasting blooms
Height: 4-8 ft
Tolerances: full sun to partial shade, deer resistant
