According to NY State Law, an imminent threat is "a wide spread or severe damage, injury, or loss of life or property resulting from any natural or man-made causes[1]". Further, "whenever the governor, on his own initiative or pursuant to a request from one or more chief executives, finds that a disaster has occurred or may be imminent for which local governments are unable to respond adequately, he shall declare a disaster emergency by executive order [1]." A chief executive can be a village mayor, town supervisor, county executive, or respective manager.
By Mindy Block: 9/10/2017, updated 7/14/2020, Why aren't ticks bites considered an imminent threat like Covid-19, hurricanes and mosquitoes? Ever hear about the frog sitting in a slow heating pot of water? As the story goes, if the water is heated slow enough, the frog won't recognize the danger until it's too late.

by Elizabeth Casey, NYS Licensed Acupuncturist The natural world is such a wonderful source of joy, nurture and healing that it’s truly sad to see anyone afraid to be outside because of ticks. This is especially so because there are effective and non-toxic ways to avoid infection and, for those already dealing with tick-borne illnesses, to recover from them. Read on to learn how. My goals are: to keep you safe outdoors, to empower you to enjoy nature without fear, and to keep exposure to toxins to an absolute minimum, for both you and the environment.
by Ken Kindler If you are alert, you can keep from coming in contact with poison ivy, but ticks are so small they can easily grab a ride with the means of conveyance never being the wiser. Some deer ticks and Lone Star ticks may carry diseases including Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Babesiosis and Erlichiosis.
You can greatly reduce the risk of contracting these diseases by preparing for your hike in advance. For years, I have spent more time in the woods, than out. I periodically test for Lyme Disease, and have never contracted it. When I come home from the woods, I check my entire body for ticks. They grab on anywhere from the shoe laces to mid thigh. They then start traveling straight up, looking for a place to attach. Looking for them and flicking them away has become almost an unconscious act. |
