Ostrich Fern (Matteuccia struthiopteris)

Prefers deep woods, shade and moist to wet locations, with drainage. Add foraging space and shelter for wildlife. Can be aggressive in right place so add a border if needed.

Characteristics: spreads by rhizomes
Habitat: moist to wet shady woodlands, rich humus soils
Wildlife Benefit:  shelter and foraging space for wildlife
Bloom Period: fronds unfurl in late April- early May
Height: 2-3 ft
Tolerances: prefers full shade to part shade; deer resistant
