Environmental Things To Do on Long Island, NY
What data is stored in this database?
This database is a maintained, promotional directory of organizations (nonprofit, businesses, and agencies) doing environmental good on Long Island. Unclaimed Listings have been compiled by us and at a minimum include: name, logo, one category, general location, and one frequented park. Free listings have been claimed by their owner. A category is their stated expertise, such: birding, wildlife, effects of wildfire, marine conservation, land stewardship, hiking, mountain bicycling, open space protection, education, nature center activities, etc. Enhanced or paid listing include an image gallery, social media, contact information, main weblink, and multiple categories and Parks.
Why are there two promotional directories?
Our databases are relational, with a many-to-many relationship: Things To Do is related to the Parks Directory. This means that anyone searching for a park will find those environmental organizations that frequent that park more than once a year. Organizations will be additionally advertised through park listings, and park advocates will discover a base of support, whether the need is for weed pulls, citizen science, coalition building, etc.
Will you have a relational database to promote events?
No, not at this time. It's cost prohibitive. To maintain up to date listings of every organization's events is too time consuming. Instead, we will most likely be offering banner ads, and will provide additional services to help organizations reach a wider audience. Enhanced Listings enable direct links to the primary web page and other social media.
How does our database surpass other Things To Do directories?
Our geographic focus is Long Island, including Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk counties. Our target audience is the Long Island environmental community who include lifelong learners, conservation activists, backyard explorers, outdoor enthusiasts, environmentalists, gardeners, birdwatchers, and wildlife lovers. Quality Parks has been a part of this community for more than twenty years, is respected for its honesty, integrity, and transparency, and is well suited for validating listings and their content.
Is the database easy to search?
There are two ways to search this database. Users can search by partial or full name keyword or by category. No search is available by location, as some organizations have a local focus, while others are more regional (not strongly affiliated with their specific location). Users can simply scan our listings where Enhanced Listings are featured first, followed by Free Listings and Unclaimed Listings.
Where is the data stored?
The underlying data is currently stored in Metalocator, "an automated local marketing platform for businesses of any size." Content is also mobile responsive.
