Tickseed (Coreopsis verticillata) *
Prefers sandy soils, very drought tolerant. Seeds feed birds & small animals. Deer forage in winter, maybe saving favorites. Tickseeds don't attract ticks!

* Noteworthy: This isn't native to Long Island. We're working on getting a LI local coreopsis, or instead an early spring bloomer. So far we have found Coreopsis rosea to be a native alternative and are looking for sources.
