Walking the trails reveal oak and evergreen forests, a former open field, and a descent down to the Mount Sinai Harbor. Conversations with locals reveal initiatives to cut back invasive vines and mowing to restore the old field. Reportedly, SC Parks confiscated the mower, and the guy cutting back the vines moved away. Overall, we gave this park a Quality Parks Score rating of 4 (out of 10), because trails weren't well marked, a promising constituency remains untapped as a resource for park stewardship, invasive species go unchecked, and there's no welcoming signage. Quality Parks has adapted Google's Quality Score to evaluating parks. In doing so, we considered: nature, public access, vandalism, trails, signage, boundaries, etc. Several parks where then ranked and compared to determine if the Quality Parks Score obtained adequately revealed park conditions (,).
Quality Parks Scores will be listed on our Park News & Advocacy page.
